Mrs. Sara Catherine Wilson Vaughan (BA / Board Member)

Mrs. Sara Catherine Wilson VaughanMrs. Sara Catherine Wilson Vaughan is a retired educator. She received her BA degree in Elementary Education at Florida State University. She taught in DeKalb County for 11 years, and Gwinnett County for 17 years. Her first teaching opportunity was at Snapfinger Elementary in DeKalb County, where she had the privilege of teaching and getting to know all four of the Doyle children that were being raised by their loving grandparents. Through the partnership between the teacher and the guardians, Sara Catherine learned about the family dynamic and how they were creating a loving, caring, environment for these children to grow and learn, and they became a TEAM. Sara Catherine chose to stay very involved in their lives and became the mentor for Lucretia. This enabled her to support the family in any way possible to not only get the best education they could get, but also to show Lucretia and her siblings that there were lots of loving and caring folks all around them, even outside the family.
Sara Catherine has continued to stay in contact with the Doyle family, going to church with them, attending birthday parties, and most importantly attending college graduations!! Having the opportunity to meet and be a part of this special family has been a blessing in her life, and she is just as excited to continue this important journey as a board member for this wonderful foundation.
